David Headley, 49 years old Chicago man pleaded guilty in a federal court in Chicago to a dozen federal terrorism charges. The man was charged in two international terror plots. One of them was 2008 Mumbai, India, attacks. He pleaded guilty Thursday to a dozen counts federal terrorism charges against him, and now will not face a trial. David Headley agreed to cooperate with the USA government and he testifies before a grand jury today at a federal court in Chicago.
According to the authority accusation he was scouted out targets for the terrorist attacks in Mumbai in November 2008 that killed more than 160 people, including Six Americans. Also he was planning an attack on a Danish newspaper, which was never carried out. That Danish newspaper published cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed. He also admitted in front of the Jury that in early November 2008, a Lashkar-e-Tayyiba member in Karachi, Pakistan, instructed him to scout the Copenhagen and Aarhus offices in Denmark of the Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten newspaper in preparation for an attack. Authority also claimed that he attended Lashkar-e-Tayyiba training camp in Pakistan in 2005 and then he got instruction to conduct surveillance in India. Three other members were with him during surveillance. He could have faced the death penalty if convicted, but in exchange for his guilty plea and cooperation, the government has decided to take execution off the table. But the Justice Department said, “he will not be sentenced until after the conclusion of his cooperation”
