The BNP chairperson made the call on Wednesday at the grand rally in Dhaka Paltan ground, which turned into a sea of people as small processions filled the area through the afternoon on Wednesday. The Dhaka Division grand Rally stated at 2:05 pm. BNP chairperson reached at the ground 4:00 and started her 2 hour long speech at around 4:30 pm. The venue was teeming with people by 3pm. Enthusiastic supporters also gathered around the Paltan grounds including the Zero Point, Rajuk Avenue, Topkhana Road, Dainik Bangla intersection and Baitul Mokkarram Mosque. The roofs of surrounding buildings were crowded with people from the rally ground. The processionists chanted, "Save the country, save the people" and "Khaleda Zia go ahead, we are with you." During her 2-hour-long address, Zia criticised the government for its "failure" to run the country and exposing the people to their "worst miseries". She slammed what she called the "politicisation of particularly the justice administration system", vandalism by ruling party students activists at campuses and compromising the country's interests through unequal deals with India. Khaleda blamed the incumbent government for the nagging power crisis and also blamed the Government to create the crisis only to be able to award power projects without floating tenders." Citing the people's sufferings, Khaleda mentioned deteriorating law and order, prices of essentials, gas, water and power crises, torture of journalists, harassment on women, and nepotism were going out of hand. On her speech Khaleda Zia also said that the ninth general election under the military-backed caretaker government was not free and fair. She said, "We participated in the election to remove an 'illegal' government which had taken power under the stewardship of the army." The opposition chief also asked her party leaders and activists to stage mass sit-in near the Supreme Court complex in central Dhaka on June 9 to protest "government's interference into the judicial system" and countrywide protest rallies on June 17.
