June 27, Dhaka, Bangladesh (Tazakhobor.com): The first dawn-to-dusk countrywide hartal during the 18-month old Awami League led grand alliance regime called by mainstream opposition BNP is underway in the capital city today (June 27th, 2010)

Police on Sunday detained senior BNP leader and standing committee member Mirza Abbas from in front of his Shahjahanpur residence at about 10:45am.
Two other Khaleda Zia's Advisers Abdul Mannan and Ahmed Azam Khan was also arrested during the Hartal. Police arrested Ex minister Abdul Mannan & Ahmed Azam Khan from Tejgao while they were trying to bring out a rally in favour of the hartal.
At least seven people, including BNP MP Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie and Eden College Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader Poppy, were injured in a clash between the strikers and police at the start of the hartal near Shahbagh. The two leaders were admitted to Hospital. The JCD group came under attack by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men at about 7:00am
Also the law enforcers arrested at least 100 people from different parts of the capital till 11:00am. Some 10,000 law enforcers including 15 striking forces have been deployed in the capital.
