Mobile phone policy soon: No connection in Bangladesh if below 18 E-mail
Wednesday, 07 July 2010 16:00

July 8, Bangladesh (Tazakhobor.com): The government has decided to formulate a mobile phone policy by early October to check the cell phone crimes including terrorism and extortion in the country.

The policy will not allow the purchase of SIM card to potential users below 18 years, Home Minister Advocate Sahara Khatun told reporters after a meeting with mobile phone operators at her office in the city. She added, terrorists have been committing crimes throughout the country by using cell phones.
According to the new policy the distributors must be educated up to at least the SSC level and those failing to fulfill it will have to receive training to make them qualified for selling SIM cards. Also the mobile phone operators need to submit their distributors' list within September 30 this year.
The minister also made it clear that measures would be taken for online registration of those who would buy SIM cards from January 2011.
State Minister for Home Advocate Shamsul Haq Tuku, senior officials of Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC), representatives of the mobile phone companies and law enforcing agencies were at the meeting.
