Aug 12, Dhaka, Bangladesh (Tazakhobor.Com): Thousands of angry consumers took streets to protests against frequent power outages and vandalized several electricity offices across the country.

People on Wednesday clashed with the police, vandalized power offices and blocked roads stretches in places in which about a hundred were injured including 10 police personnel.
Police charge truncheon on protesters at a restaurant at Mandalpara in Narayanganj in the wee hours yesterday. People of Baburail, Paikpara, Deobhog, Nayapara, Bhuiyanpara and Nitaiganj villages disgruntled by power cuts came to the Mandalpara Power Substation Office in processions around 1:30am and attacked it. Clashes with police went on until four in the morning. Police fired 250 rubber bullets and lobbed some teargas canisters to bring the situation under control. Also the ruling party-backed Bangladesh Chhatra League and Juba League activists in Lakshmipur attacked a protest against power outage. At least five were injured.
Such protests were held in places such as Narayanganj, Sylhet, Khulna, Jessore, Natore, Lakshmipur, Chuadanga, Pabna, Begumganj and Senbag in Noakhali and Shariatpur.
The demonstrators also vandalized the power complaint centre at Araparah in Savar on Tuesday night. Consumers also beat three Naria Palli Bidyut Samity employees on Tuesday night in Shariatpur because of the nagging power outage and two others of Tetulia power office on Wednesday in Panchagarh.
The protesters blocked the main road through Chuadanga district town. They also locked out the office of the executive engineer of Chuadanga Power Development Board.
Hundreds of villagers of Joypurhat assembled at Bangladesh Power Development Board office and barricaded the highway demanding uninterrupted power supply in the district.
Also at Rajshahi locals and businessmen staged demonstrations at PN High School ground of Puthia upazila yesterday protesting against long and frequent power cuts.
On Monday evening, two groups of people blocked the Sylhet–Dhaka Highway at Nazirbazar and Tajpurbazar in protest at outages the Bishwanath and Balaganj. The police and local political leaders later convinced the people to call off the blockade.
The deputy general manager of Natore Palli Bidyut Samity-1, Ekramul Haq, filed a case against 100 people for the vandalism. At least 1,000 sued over vandalism across the country yesterday. Also the home minister Shahara Khatun has warned against attempts to disrupt law and order in the name of protests over power, gas and water shortage.
According to official sources, The country's power generation has come down to about 3800 megawatt (mw), which is the lowest in last three years.
