Aug 13, Dhaka, Bangladesh (Tazakhobor.Com): At least 40 people were injured in Dinajpur on Friday as police used rubber bullets, teargas and charged batons to disperse mass villagers protesting against chronic Power Outage.

Police also picked up 2 villagers in connection with the demonstration and beat them up mercilessly. The two were then taken to the Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital in a critical condition. The detained two were identified as Md Shajahan, 32, and Md Sohel, 15.
Four others -- Md Abdus Sattar, 40, Md Mokbul Hossain, 35, Md Anwar Hossain, 28, and Md Anwarul Islam 29, -- who sustained bullets wounds were also admitted to the hospital.
According to local people hundreds of power hungry people of different villages in three unions -- Shator, Bhognagar and Mahanpur under the upazila gathered at Bottoli village around 11:30am. Later, the villagers blocked the highway around 12:30pm. The blockade stranded hundreds of vehicles on the highway.
Police charged batons on them, which left at least 20 people wounded on the spot, said witnesses. Furious with the truncheon charges, the villagers again regrouped at different places and attacked police. Police also fired rubber bullets and teargas shells in response. Several chase and counter-chase between the villagers and police also reported during the clash.
Police said a large number of farmers & local villagers blocked the Thakurgaon-Dinajpur Highway demanding uninterrupted power supply in Birganj upazila. Later, they withdrew their hours long road blockade and siege programme following the release of two arrested persons.
