High Court Scrapped Jail Sentence against BNP Leader Nazmul Huda

Aug 18, Dhaka, Bangladesh (Tazakhobor.com): The High Court scrapped a 12-year imprisonment sentence handed down to former BNP lawmaker and Communications Minister Nazmul Huda in a graft case.

A High Court division bench headed by Justice Syed Dastagir Husain delivered the verdict allowing the appeal against the trial court orders filed by the convict-petitioner.
On April 3 in 2008, a special court sentenced Huda, also a BNP stalwart, to 12 years in jail in a graft case for amassing wealth illegally and concealing the information from the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).
The trial court had also ordered the government to confiscate Tk 1 crore from Huda, including his pleasure villa.
On July 11 in 2007, the ACC filed the case against the Huda couple for a mismatch between their wealth and the wealth statements they had submitted earlier to the ACC.
