Dhaka, Bangladesh (Tazakhobor.com): The holy Shab-e-Meraj will be celebrated on June 30 (Thursday), 2011 as the moon of Rajab 1432 Hijri month was sighted in the country on Friday and the counting of Rajab month begins tomorrow.

On a press release the National Moon Sighting Committee confirmed the news of moon sighting and announced that the Rajab moon was sighted today and the Shab-e-Meraj will be celebrated on June 30 this year. The meeting of National Moon Sighting Committee was held in the conference room of the Islamic Foundation Bangladesh in Dhaka this afternoon.
State Minister for Religious Affairs and Committee President Advocate Mohammad Shahjahan Mian chaired the meeting. Among others religious affairs joint secretary Kamal Uddin Ahmed, Islamic Foundation Director General Shamim Mohammad Afzal, Principal Information Officer Harun-ur-Rashid, director general of Bangladesh Television Kazi Abu Jafar Siddiqui, principal of Madrasa-e-Alia, Dhaka Dr AKM Yakub Hossain, SPARSO Secretary Md Rafiul Alam, additional deputy commissioner of Dhaka Abu Hena Morshed Zaman, deputy director of Meteorological Department Md Shah Alam and pesh imam of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Muhibullahil Baqi Nadvi also attended the meeting.
All the Muslim believers celebrate this as a grand day of Meraj. The holy night will begin following Esha prayers at mosques across the country. Special prayers will be hosted by the Islamic Foundation at the Baitul Mokarram National Mosque. People also offer special prayers at their near and dear ones' graves, seeking divine blessings for the departed souls. According to Islamic belief, Muhammad crossed seven skies on the heavenly vehicle, Borak, on 26 Rajab, 620.

What Islam Syas About Shab-e-Meraj

The event of Isra and Mi'raj are referred to briefly in the Qur'an. For greater detail, they have been discussed in supplemental traditions to the Qur'an, known as hadith literature. Within the Qur'an itself, there are two verses in chapter 17, which has been named after the Isra, and is called "Chapter Isra" or "Sura Al-Isra". There is also some information in Sura An-Najm, which some scholars say is related to the Isra and Mi'raj.

Glory to (Allah) Who did take His servant for a Journey by night from the Sacred Mosque to the farthest Mosque, whose precincts We did bless,- in order that We might show him some of Our Signs: for He is the One Who heareth and seeth (all things).

Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah:
That he heard Allah's Apostle saying, "When the people of Quraish did not believe me (i.e. the story of my Night Journey), I stood up in Al-Hijr and Allah displayed Jerusalem in front of me, and I began describing it to them while I was looking at it."
