On Monday, Feb 28th 2010, two Dhaka Metropolitan magistrate courts issued arrest warrants in two separate cases against Tarique Rahman and Arafat Rahman Coco, the two sons of BNP chairperson and opposition leader Khaleda Zia. Both of them currently residing abroad for treatment.
Mehedi Hasan Talukdar, the metropolitan magistrate issued a warrant against Tarique in an extortion case filed in April 2007, in the period of 1/11 caretaker government by Khairul Bashar, general manager of construction firm Abdul Monem Ltd. The plaintiff Bashar accused Tarique and six associates of extorting Tk 20.31 crore from the construction company on different dates during 2001-2003.

The other five accused in the case are Kamruzzaman, Mahbubul Alam, Obaidul Khandaker Sohel, Azizul Karim and Maniqur Rahman Manik.
Tarique, the senior vice-president of BNP, is now in the UK. He is accused in over 10 other cases filed mostly during the past caretaker government.
Also on Monday, another metropolitan judge ANM Bashirullah issued an arrest warrant against Tarique's younger brother in a tax dodge case. The court also issued an arrest warrant against former BNP state minister Fazlur Rahman Patal for tax evasion.
Both Tarique and Coco have been out of the country since 2008. Jailed in corruption cases, they were released on bail separately by past government to seek medical treatment in London and Bangkok respectively.
