Friday night at about 11.00pm BNP chief whip Zainul Abdin Farroque filed a general diary with the Gulshan police. He was asking for security after receiving death threats since 2.00pm in the afternoon. Farooque mentioned to press that he felt very in secured after receiving repeated death threats for himself and for his family members.
Tuhin Hossain , the sub inspector of Gulshan police station confirmed press that Mr. Farroque had been receiving death threats since 2.00pm in the afternoon. Farroque's lawyer Nitai Roy Chowdhury, also informed press, that the opposition leader had been receiving calls threatening to kill him and his family members. The callers had apparently told the senior BNP leader that he would be taught a good lesson for speaking against Sajib Wazed Jaoy, son of Prime minister Sheikh Hasina. Yesterday and earlier today Zainul Abdin Farroque had accused the prime minister's son, Sajeeb Wazed, of being involved with illegal internet telephony operations, known as VoIP (voice over internet protocol). Yesterday on national parliament he demanded investigation into the alleged involvement and offered the opposition's assistance in this regard with all kinds of information. He had told reporters that the business originally began with a relative of Sheikh Hasina through a company called Spectra Solutions and he demanded he has all kind of evidence to prove it. The BNP student wing, Jatiyabadi Chhatra Dal, protesting against the threats declared that it would demonstrate outside the party's office in Naya Paltan on Saturday at 10.00am.
