Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Sunday claimed that Nobel laureate Dr Mohammad Yunus has spread propaganda against the government saying that it has been attempting to take over the bank."I repeatedly said that the government has no intention to take over the bank; those happening about the bank are unnecessary
campaign and it is harmful for the country,” Finance Minister said.

Muhith also claimed  microlender was at its peak now since the Nobel laureate left it.

The minister said this while speaking as the chief guest at a roundtable organised by Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) in the capital's
Cirdap auditorium.

“There is another man who is working for the expansion of the microcredit sector, he is sitting here and it is I,” Muhith said.

On June 2, the Cabinet endorsed a draft of the 'Grameen Bank Ordinance (Amendment) 2012 changing the rules for appointing Managing Director
through a martial law ordinance.

Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan later attempted to set to rest the misgivings over the amendment to the ordinance and
said Grameen Bank's Board, not the Chairman, will appoint the Managing Director.

TIB Chairperson Advocate Sultana Kamal and TIB Trustee Board Member M Hafizuddin Khan attended the programme.
