The weeklong Income Tax Fair 2012 has ended on Saturday with a huge response from tax payer and collected a total of Tk 839 crore, double from Tk 414.39 crore last year. Bangladesh Board of Revenue (NBR) organized the event simultaneously in all the divisional cities alongside 11 districts across the country. NBR informed press that in the final day of the fair, some 1,02,198 returns were submitted while 16,402 new Tax Identification Numbers (TINs) issued. The NBR organised a press conference this afternoon to reveal the statistics of the fair on the Officers Club premises. NBR member MA Kader Sarkar disclosed in details the outcome of the fair. NBR also informed press that a tota of 3.46 lakh people received income tax-related services and advices from the help desks set up in the all the fair venues during the weeklong fair against the number of 75,000 last year. Of the seven divisional cities, the highest number of 55,579 taxpayers submitted their returns in the capital paying also the highest amount of over Tk 665.01 crore to the state coffer followed by Tk 126.45 crore in Chittagong with 19,437 taxpayers submitting their returns. Some Tk 26.78 crore was collected from the fair in Sylhet with 2,190 taxpayers submitting their returns while Tk 7.24 crore was realised from the fair in Khulna with 4,916 taxpayers submitting their returns. Apart from the divisional cities, income tax fairs were also held in 11 districts -- Mymensingh, Gazipur, Faridpur, Comilla, Noakhali, Jessore, Kusthia, Patuakhali, Dinajpur, Pabna and Bogra. The weeklong income tax fair began on September 16 iming to create awareness among people about tax payment and boost revenue collection.
