High Court questions medical admission on GPA Print E-mail

The High Court banch of Justice Naima Haider and Muhammad Khurshid Alam has asked  Government to explain the reason to introduce new medical and dental college admission rule ,enrolling  students based on their SSC and HSC GPAs only and omitting admission test completely.
The bench of justices Naima Haider and Muhammad Khurshid Alam gave the ruling on Tuesday after holding a primary hearing on a petition filed by Advocate Yunus Ali Akondo, father of an admission seeker,a day before.

The Health Secretary, Education Secretary and the Director General of the Health Department get four weeks to respond to the rule.

On sunday Health Minister AFM Ruhal Haque told that there would be no admission test from this year."We have taken this decision after discussing with all" .He said, "students  will be enrolled based on their GPAs in public examinations –SSC and HSC." Ministry took the decision at a meeting on Sunday.


For the follwoing two days Admission seekers and their paretns have been continuing their agitation against the government’s decision to discard admission tests and making the GPA-based  results the only admission criteria.The agitated students said The protest would continue if the court ruling comes unfavourable to them, the students warned at an hour-long press conference at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) earlier around 11:00am.
